Ugandan troops will remain deployed in Somalia despite ongoing funding uncertainties, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Kiryowa Kiwanuka has confirmed, citing a bilateral security agreement between Kampala and Mogadishu.

Addressing concerns over financing for peacekeeping operations in the Horn of Africa, Kiwanuka pointed out that Uganda’s military commitment is anchored in a bilateral arrangement between the two nations rather than contingent solely on external donor support.

Uganda remains one of the largest troop-contributing countries to peace operations in Somalia, playing a pivotal role in countering the Al-Shabaab insurgency and stabilising the region.
