Accepting the role, President Cyril Ramaphosa said SA was taking on the responsibility with humility and a strong sense of duty.

He said the country remained grateful to its neighbours, whose support and solidarity contributed to SA’s struggle for liberation from apartheid.

The summit focused on ways to promote sustainable and inclusive industrialisation through infrastructure development, agriculture and the processing of critical minerals.

“On behalf of the government and the people of SA, I accept the responsibility of assuming the Chairpersonship of SADC. We do so with profound humility, a deep sense of duty, and an unwavering commitment to the peoples of Southern Africa. SA regards this Chairpersonship not simply as an honour bestowed upon our country, but as a responsibility entrusted to us by our region. We accept it, conscious of the debt of gratitude that SA owes to the countries and the peoples of Southern Africa. and the peoples of Southern Africa.”
