Freed Chadian opposition leader calls for peace

Former Chadian Prime Minister and opposition leader Succès Masra has called for national reconciliation following his release from prison, where he had been serving a 20-year sentence.

Masra was granted a presidential pardon alongside eight other opposition leaders from the Consultation Group of Political Actors, who were sentenced in May to eight years in prison for alleged insurrection.

Speaking a day after his release, Masra extended a hand to the government, emphasising the need for dialogue and unity to overcome Chad’s political divides.
