The calls follow a high-profile political fallout earlier this year between President Faye and his former ally, Ousmane Sonko. Faye removed Sonko from his post as Prime Minister, sparking a rift within the political coalition that swept them to power in 2024.
Local authorities across Senegal are nearing the end of their five-year terms, but official presidential decrees fixing the election date and opening voter registration have yet to be published.
Political analysts warn that continuing delays to the electoral calendar risk distracting the government from tackling pressing economic challenges, including public debt and the rising cost of living.
