Kenya and the World Bank have held discussions aimed at attracting investment to expand the local manufacturing of medical consumables, in a push to strengthen regional health security and supply chain resilience.
The consultative meeting at Afya House brought together Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, and a delegation from the World Bank led by Operations Officer Ronald Rateiwa and Senior Economist Rachel Sebudde.
Deliberations centred on findings from the Kenya Country Private Sector Diagnostic 2.0, evaluating strategies to improve procurement frameworks, streamline regulatory processes, and expand market access for domestic pharmaceutical and medical equipment producers.
Oluga highlighted the necessity of aligning World Bank findings with ongoing national health reforms to build robust domestic supply chains. The initiative aims to position Kenyan medical manufacturers to supply not only domestic health facilities under Universal Health Coverage programs but also expanding regional and continental African markets.
