Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has pardoned former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, ordering her release from house arrest and halting all criminal prosecutions against her.
Among had been detained in connection with corruption allegations, money laundering, and her luxury UK properties, but she has now been forgiven by the President.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s Military Chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the son of President Museveni, has announced that he would run for president in next elections scheduled for 2031.
Kainerugaba, has long been touted as a possible successor to his ageing father and is well known for his fiery social media posts including threats to behead the leading opposition leader Bobi Wine.
He played a key role in securing his father’s re-election in the last polls in January.
