Zambian opposition leader Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, remain in police custody after being handed over by the United Nations (UN) in Lusaka on Thursday.
The authorities accused the opposition of planning an armed insurgency, which they denied.
The arrest took place days before the inauguration of president, elect Hakainde Hichilema.
Hichilema was confirmed winner of the August 13 general elections.
