Over seven million children vaccinated against polio in Malawi

Malawi has surpassed its national targets in its latest polio vaccination drive, reaching more than 7.3 million children under the age of 10 across the country.

The nationwide campaign, conducted between August 11 and 14, exceeded its initial target of 7 million children, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health’s Principal Secretary, Dr Dan Namalika.

The Ministry praised health workers, volunteers, local partners, and community leaders, including traditional and religious figures, for their roles in driving public participation and penetrating hard-to-reach rural areas.

Health authorities confirmed that post-campaign monitoring will continue alongside routine immunization efforts to maintain national protection against wild polio and vaccine-derived strains across border districts.
