Guinea investigates discovery of bound victims in mass grave

Guinean authorities have opened a judicial investigation following the discovery of six bodies in a mass grave in the southwestern prefecture of Forécariah, approximately 90 kilometres from the capital, Conakry.

The bodies of the six male victims were discovered on Monday. According to local reporting, the victims were found during exhumation with their eyes bandaged and their hands bound.

The identities of the victims and the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unconfirmed. However, the discovery comes amid heightened concern over a series of unresolved disappearances reported across Guinea in recent years.

Providing perspective on the investigation, Alseny Farinta Camara, National Coordinator for the civil society organisation Tournons La Page Guinea, noted that human rights groups are closely monitoring the authorities’ response to ensure a transparent inquiry.
