Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas.
The verdict is the first conviction in a case that went unsolved for nearly three decades.
A Las Vegas jury reached its verdict after about three hours of deliberations, finding Davis guilty of orchestrating the killing of Shakur.
Prosecutor said Davis, also known as Keefe D helped organise the attack after Shakur and members of his entourage got into a fight with Davis’ nephew at a Las Vegas casino.
They told jurors that Davis was a senior figure in the South Side Compton Crips gang, and that after the confrontation, he obtained a gun, rounded up a group of associates, and went looking for Shakur.
Davis was not accused of actually firing the shots, but prosecutors argued he could still be held responsible for the murder because he helped plan the attack and provided the weapon.
But the prosecution’s case was based on Davis’s own words.
Over the years, he spoke repeatedly about the killing, including interviews, recorded conversations with investigators, and in a memoir published in 2019.
Prosecutors argue that, while some details change. The central story remained consistent.
The defence said those accounts were contradictory and unreliable, arguing that Davis exaggerated or fabricated stories about the murder for money and publicity.
