The United Nations (UN) World Food Programme (WFP) has strongly condemned an aerial attack on two of its clearly marked humanitarian trucks transporting food assistance in Sudan’s South Kordofan State.
The incident occurred outside the city of Dilling on August 30, 2026. According to the WFP, the aid convoy was en route to Kadugli and prominently displayed the agency’s banners and flags when it was struck.
The strike destroyed more than 50 metric tons of essential food supplies, including cereals, yellow split peas, vegetable oil, and salt, erasing enough aid to feed 5 800 people facing severe hunger for a month. In Kadugli alone, the WFP supports approximately 58 000 individuals living under emergency levels of food insecurity.
The UN agency noted that this marks the eighth aerial attack to hit WFP operations or facilities in Sudan since the start of the year, underscoring the increasingly dangerous operational environment for international humanitarian workers.
The WFP urged all warring factions to adhere to international humanitarian law and cease targeted strikes on aid personnel and emergency distribution networks.
