For millions of adults living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), managing a workday can feel like a constant uphill climb, juggling missed deadlines, back-to-back meetings, and the daily noise of open-plan offices. But experts say a fresh, personalised approach to care could be a game-changer for workplace wellness.
Ahead of the 7th Southern African Multidisciplinary ADHD Congress, health leaders are pushing to move beyond the traditional “find the right pill” mindset. Instead, they are advocating for “precision care”, a tailored combination of support, lifestyle tweaks, and smarter work environments designed around how individual brains actually function.
Around 4%of South African adults live with ADHD, yet many struggle in silent frustration.
According to Professor Renata Schoeman from Stellenbosch Business School, thriving at work isn’t about expecting lower standards. It is about building neuroinclusive spaces that cut out unnecessary distractions, offer flexible routines, and focus on clear, real-world outcomes so adults with ADHD can bring their best, most creative selves to everyday life.
