Amnesty International South Africa (SA) has urged voters to prioritise human rights and accountability when casting their ballots in the local government elections scheduled for November 4, 2026.
The human rights organisation highlighted widespread public dissatisfaction with crumbling municipal infrastructure and failing basic services, describing the upcoming vote as a decisive moment to demand political accountability. According to the agency, systemic corruption, poor governance, and administrative mismanagement across numerous municipalities continue to deny millions of South Africans their basic constitutional rights.
Speaking on the campaign, Amnesty International SA Campaigner Cassandra Dorasamy emphasised that basic service delivery is fundamental to fulfilling human rights, warning that voters must use the ballot box to send a clear message that corruption and poor governance will no longer be tolerated.
