Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has visited Mozambique to attend the official commissioning of the second phase of the petroleum pipeline connecting the port city of Beira directly to Feruka in eastern Zimbabwe.

The major infrastructure expansion is designed to boost fuel transport capacity between the two neighbouring nations, reducing reliance on heavy road transport, lowering logistics costs, and stabilising fuel supply chains across the region.

Correspondent Bright Sonjela provided details on the diplomatic and economic impact of the project, highlighting how the expanded pipeline strengthens bilateral trade and energy security for both Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

This expanded infrastructure project marks a crucial step in boosting energy resilience for landlocked Zimbabwe, which relies heavily on Mozambique’s coastal infrastructure for its fuel imports.

By shifting larger volumes of refined petroleum from trucks to the sub-regional pipeline network, the two nations aim to curb transit delays, cut road maintenance expenditure, and ensure a more reliable flow of fuel to power local industries.
