Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Egypt to deepen economic and military ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Egypt for a three-day state visit, marking his first trip to the North African nation in ten years as Beijing and Cairo move to solidify strategic, technological, and military ties.

Hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the summit comes as both nations navigate shifting geopolitical dynamics stemming from the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.

Commemorating 70 years of formal diplomatic relations, both leaders penned opinion pieces in Egypt’s state-owned newspapers to outline their shared vision. Xi urged the two countries to expand practical economic co-operation and infrastructure development, whilst el-Sisi commended substantial Chinese capital investments across Egypt and reaffirmed Cairo’s explicit support for the One China policy regarding Taiwan.
