Angolan President restructures military leadership

President João Lourenço has carried out a major reshuffle across the leadership of Angola’s military and security services following consultations with the National Security Council.

The overhaul covers key positions within the Angolan Armed Forces, the National Police, military justice branches, intelligence services, and the presidential military cabinet. As part of the transition, 26 General Officers and admirals were officially retired after reaching the mandatory age limit.

The appointments come during a period of heightened political tension as the Southern African nation prepares for its upcoming electoral cycle.
