The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released four female journalists and a lawyer in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, after they spent several months in detention.
The women were reportedly arrested in February after attending a workshop focused on women’s rights and issues affecting women in Sudan.
According to reports, RSF personnel dressed in civilian clothing and travelling in military vehicles arrived at their homes and took them away to undisclosed locations.
Their detention had raised concerns among rights and press freedom groups, particularly amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan and growing restrictions on journalists and civil society activists.
