As countries mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 today, on September 10, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) has launched its annual suicide prevention campaign with a message: “Every Conversation Counts”.
The campaign highlights the power of starting conversations about suicide and mental health.
SADAG says sometimes, simply asking someone how they are, listening without judgement, and creating a safe space to talk can make a meaningful difference.
According to the World Health Organisation, suicide rates in Africa remain a critical public health concern.
