Gabonese lawmaker Augustin Lobel Yembi has been returned home in police custody following a diplomatic intervention that secured his release in Rwanda, where he was detained for allegedly assaulting a RwandAir employee.

Addressing the incident, Geopolitical Analyst Aaron Nga’mbi described Yembi ‘s conduct as “a disgrace story” that has sparked widespread outrage on social media.

Nga’mbi noted that while diplomatic channels successfully facilitated Yembi’s repatriation to Gabon, his political status may ultimately shield him from significant legal consequences.

“In most African countries, this could be the end of the story, especially that he’s a member of parliament (MP),” Nga’mbi said, adding that unless the MP lacks political connections, he is likely to “serve a very lenient sentence, and then after which he will be let go.”
