COSATU) is holding its 15th National Congress

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is holding its 15th National Congress in Midrand, Gauteng Province, where delegates will reflect on key workers’ gains while confronting the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

COSATU Parliamentary Coordinator Matthew Parks says discussions will focus on achievements such as increases to the national minimum wage, the implementation of the two-pot retirement system and progress in ending load shedding.

The four-day gathering will also tackle issues including unemployment, struggling municipalities in Gauteng Province and efforts to rebuild the Tripartite Alliance.

About 1 800 delegates from COSATU’s affiliated unions are expected to attend and vote for the federation’s new leadership.
