Health authorities in Uganda have ordered all students returning to the country from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to undergo a compulsory 21-day quarantine before being permitted to re-enter school classrooms.
The mandatory isolation policy is being implemented as a preventive health measure to monitor returning students and curb the potential cross-border transmission of infectious diseases following recent outbreaks in the neighbouring central African nation.
The 21-day isolation period directly matches the standard incubation timeline for high-consequence viral diseases such as Ebola and Mpox, which present persistent public health risks along the porous Uganda-DRC border corridor.
Authorities emphasised that cross-border movement among cross-border school children remains a high-risk transmission vector requiring strict surveillance before integration into learning institutions.
