Ramaphosa said no investigative avenue should be overlooked as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bring those responsible to justice. “These incidents are causing fear and uncertainty in our communities, and especially among women,” Ramaphosa said.

“As Government, we share the concerns of all South Africans, and we mourn the lives so cruelly taken away.”

Ramaphosa extended condolences to the families and communities affected by the killings. “I speak for all of us as I extend my deepest condolences to all families and communities affected by the killing of women recently found in and around Kempton Park,” Ramaphosa said.

Law enforcement agencies are working to establish the facts, protect communities and determine whether one or more perpetrators were responsible.

Ramaphosa said discussions had taken place with the SA Minister of Police and Acting National Police Commissioner regarding the progress of the investigation. “I have directed that these cases be prioritised and that no stone be left unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” Ramaphosa said.

The investigation will require cooperation between law enforcement agencies and members of the public who may have information about the incidents. “Our law enforcement agencies are undertaking this work in partnership with citizens, on whom we depend for any information that may help end these attacks on women,” Ramaphosa said.

Ramaphosa called on SA residents to defend the safety, dignity and rights of women and girls. “As a nation, we must stand up for the rights, safety and dignity of women and girls,” Ramaphosa said.

“As we do so, our hearts go out to all the families affected by the terrible events in the Kempton Park area,” Ramaphosa said.
