The relationship between Serbia and South Africa (SA) has deep historical roots stretching back to the fight against apartheid.
In an interview with Channel Africa in Pretoria on Tuesday, Serbian Ambassador to SA Saša Mart says the former Yugoslavia maintained diplomatic missions across the Frontline States during the apartheid era and supported Africa’s liberation movements.
He also recalled the historic 1961 Belgrade Conference, where SA’s liberation struggle was represented by Oliver Tambo.
More than six decades later, Mart says that history continues to provide an important foundation for Serbia’s engagement and cooperation with SA and the rest of Africa.
