Malawi enforces immediate ban on external public sector conferences

The Malawian government has announced an immediate suspension of all state-funded workshops and conferences hosted outside official duty stations across the country.

According to a report by Correspondent Richard Mwafulirwa, the directive is aimed at curbing non-essential public spending, streamlining administrative costs, and safeguarding public funds amidst broader fiscal consolidation efforts.

Under the new order, all ministries, departments, and state agencies are required to convene official meetings and capacity-building engagements within government facilities rather than leasing private venues or traveling away from primary workstations.

The policy shift forms part of a series of cost-cutting measures introduced by authorities in Lilongwe to enforce financial discipline across the public sector and prioritize resource allocation toward core public services.
