The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the immediate suspension of all defence and military co-operation with the Republic of Turkey, marking a breakdown in security ties between Kampala and Ankara.
The official directive was issued in a press statement published on social media platform X by Colonel Chris Magezi, Acting Director Defence Public Information at Uganda’s Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the UPDF.
“The UPDF has with immediate effect suspended all and any Defence and Military co-operation with the Republic of Türkiye,” Magezi confirmed in the statement released on Saturday. “The measure will remain in force until outstanding issues of mutual defence and military cooperation between the two countries are resolved.”
