Thousands of protesters recently gathered in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, demanding that the government immediately enact targeted legislation to combat a sharp rise in femicide, rape, and child abuse.

The demonstration highlights mounting public outrage over gender-based violence (GBV) and systemic failures to protect women and children across the country.

Community leaders and civil rights advocates present at the march urged parliament to fast-track strict legal reforms, implement stiffer penalties for offenders, and establish dedicated support systems for victims.

Civil society groups warned that without urgent legal intervention, cases of domestic abuse and violence against vulnerable groups will continue to rise unchecked.
