The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (SA) has officially opened applications for special votes ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Voters requiring special voting arrangements have until October 12, 2026, at 17h00 CAT to submit their applications.

Special votes cater to registered voters who cannot vote at a voting station on election day, including essential services workers and media personnel, as well as home visits for individuals unable to travel due to physical conditions or disabilities.
