African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf held discussions with Uganda’s Foreign Minister Adonia Ayebare on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

Youssouf congratulated Ayebare on his recent appointment to the foreign affairs portfolio, describing his extensive diplomatic background as Uganda’s former Permanent Representative to the UN as a major asset for advancing effective multilateralism across the continent.

The bilateral meeting focused on the broader regional peace and security landscape. Youssouf commended Uganda for its pivotal and enduring contribution to peacekeeping operations in Somalia and recognised Kampala’s continued diplomatic role in supporting conflict resolution and stability across the East and Horn of Africa regions.
