National Chairperson of opposition party ACT-Wazalendo Othman Masoud Othman has been sworn in as First Vice President of Zanzibar by President Hussein Ali Mwinyi at State House in Unguja.
The swearing-in ceremony completes Othman’s return to the constitutional power-sharing position. His reappointment follows formal nomination by ACT-Wazalendo’s leadership committee and months of reconciliation dialogue between the opposition party and the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi.
Addressing attendees following the ceremony, Mwinyi emphasiszed that the Government of National Unity exists to foster political reconciliation, national stability, and economic development across the archipelago rather than divide political office.
Othman’s return restores full opposition participation in the non-Union administration under Zanzibar’s constitutional framework.
