Gabon launches electronic document management system to modernise public service

The government of Gabon has officially unveiled a new Electronic Document Management platform designed to digitise public administration and phase out paper-based procedures.

Developed by the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies alongside the Ministry of Digital Economy, the secure system enables government ministries to archive, track, and validate administrative files electronically. The initiative has commenced its pilot phase within the General Secretariat of the Government and the Directorate-General for Examinations and Competitions to streamline correspondence and enhance administrative oversight.

According to geopolitical analyst Aaron Ng’ambi, the initiative aligns with broader regional modernisation efforts across Africa, though structural safeguards and data security remain essential guardrails during implementation.

Ng’ambi noted that the system’s overall success will depend heavily on expanding internet infrastructure and digital literacy programs, as public service digitisation can only deliver widespread benefit if citizens are equipped to access online services effectively.
