South Africa’s (SA) Department of Higher Education and Training has begun phasing in a modernised, industry-aligned curriculum across the majority of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges nationwide.
Government officials stated that the structural curriculum overhaul aims to equip students with practical, hands-on skills that align directly with global market demands and local economic requirements.
Speaking on the strategic reform, Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube highlighted that updating training frameworks is essential to bridging the gap between classroom instruction and market needs.
Dube-Ncube noted that adapting college coursework to reflect direct feedback from industrial sectors ensures graduates enter the workforce with relevant qualifications, directly combating youth unemployment and strengthening national skills development.
