South Africans (SA) are mourning the loss of 11 lives following a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a heavy truck on the N2 highway near Mtubatuba in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Emergency medical services and traffic authorities rushed to the scene early this Sunday morning after receiving alerts regarding the horror crash. Paramedics confirmed that 11 occupants of the minibus taxi died at the scene from their injuries, while several others suffered serious conditions and were taken to nearby hospitals.
Preliminary findings indicate that the commuters were returning home from a popular Maskandi music festival held in eMpangeni when the crash occurred. Provincial traffic officials closed off affected stretches of the N2 highway to clear the wreckage, restore traffic flow, and allow police forensic teams to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
