Food insecurity in Sudan could worsen sharply

Food insecurity in Sudan could worsen sharply in the coming months as the effects of war and displacement are compounded by the El Niño weather pattern.

The United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), warns that rainfall could fall by up to 40% in parts of the country, putting further pressure on food production.

The agency is calling on donors to fund measures to protect livelihoods and help communities produce food despite the ongoing conflict between Sudan’s rival military forces.

FAO’s Director of Emergencies and Resilience, Rein Paulsen, spoke to UN News’s Ezzat El-Ferri after visiting several parts of Sudan.
