Concerns are growing across Malawi over the national health system’s capacity to maintain uninterrupted family planning and reproductive health services following significant reductions in international donor funding.
According to health financing projections, the country faces an estimated funding shortfall of 17.34 billion Kwacha ($10 million) required to procure essential contraceptives and family planning commodities for 2027.
Reporting from Blantyre, journalist Richard Mwafulirwa highlights that public health advocates and civil society groups are urging the national government to increase domestic budget allocations to prevent severe stockouts and safeguard reproductive healthcare access.
