The African Union Commission (AUC) and Egyptian government signed the agreement to formalise arrangements for the meeting.
AUC Deputy Chairperson Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi signed on behalf of the Commission, while Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Mohamed Abubakr represented Egypt.
The meeting will bring together the African Union (AU), Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms (RMs) responsible for conflict prevention, management and resolution.
The Mid-Year Coordination Meeting is the AU’s principal forum for aligning the work of the continental body with regional institutions.
The gathering will review progress in implementing Africa’s continental integration agenda and consider priorities requiring stronger coordination.
Participants will also examine the division of responsibilities among the AU, RECs and RMs.
The allocation of responsibilities is intended to reduce duplication, clarify institutional mandates and strengthen cooperation in implementing continental programmes and decisions.
The meeting will be held in accordance with an AU Assembly decision designating El Alamein as the venue for the 2026 gathering.
The Host Country Agreement follows preparations between the AUC and Egyptian authorities, covering arrangements necessary for convening the meeting successfully.
The AUC thanked the Egyptian government and people for supporting preparations for the continental gathering.
