Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi says African nations must swiftly transition from exporting raw materials to making value-added products.
He spoke at the conclusion of the 8th African Union Mid-Year Co-ordination meeting in New Alamein.
South Africa has been represented by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is also the Chair of Southern African Development Community.
Egyptian President El Sisi says Africa is no longer merely a consumer market but a promising industrial and technological partner.
He says economic growth cannot be attained in isolation from equitable global financial architecture. El Sisi adds that African countries are subjected to unfair financing conditions.
Meanwhile, Ramaphosa has used the gathering to meet with a number of leaders, including the African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, to strengthen bilateral co-operation.
