Concerns over reported agreement between Mozambique and US
A Mozambican human rights activist has written an open letter to President Daniel Chapo, raising concerns about a reported agreement between Mozambique and the United States (US) that allegedly links health funding to the sharing of health data and biological samples.
The activist says any arrangement involving citizens’ medical data, privacy and informed consent should be subject to full public disclosure, parliamentary scrutiny and public consultation.
The letter also questions whether adequate safeguards are in place to protect the rights and dignity of Mozambicans.
The issue has sparked debate over the balance between international health partnerships, access to healthcare funding, privacy rights and government transparency.
