Tensions over immigration are flaring again in South Africa’s (SA) Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, after activists from March and March disrupted operations at the Department of Home Affairs Refugee Reception Centre, forcing services to a halt.
The group targeted the facility on Tuesday, demanding tougher enforcement of immigration laws.
They also challenging the processing of asylum applications, before police and metro police intervened.
Activist Nkosikhona “Phakel’umthakathi” Ndabandaba has questioned why some foreign nationals are being allowed to seek asylum or permits while others face repatriation and is calling on government to apply immigration laws consistently.
