Race to choose the next UN Secretary-General continues
The race to choose the next United Nations (UN) Secretary-General remains unresolved.
This is after five rounds of informal voting, with frontrunner Rebeca Grynspan yet to secure decisive backing.
International Crisis Group analyst Daniel Forti says the next round of voting could reveal opposition from countries holding veto power in the UN Security Council.
Forti warns that continued divisions among member states could also create an opportunity for a late entrant to join the race.
With the new Secretary-General expected to take office in January, the narrowing transition period adds urgency to the selection process.
