Calm has returned to the streets of Orlando West
Calm has returned to the streets of Orlando West, Gauteng Province in the South African (SA), following violent protests sparked by a recent Constitutional Court ruling on the country’s Refugee laws.
Members of the SA National Defence Force and riot police were deployed to the area after at least 10 vehicles were torched and damaged.
This happens after a surge in the number of foreign nationals seeking assistance at Home Affairs and immigration offices.
Local residents say they feel unsupported by government and want their concerns over immigration and economic opportunities in the township addressed.
