South Africa’s (SA) Presidency has called on the public and media to respect the medical privacy of former President Jacob Zuma following mounting speculation surrounding his health status.
Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa has requested the Surgeon General to oversee former President Zuma’s ongoing medical care. However, Minister Ntshavheni stressed that details regarding his specific health condition can only be disclosed by his attending medical team and with his explicit personal consent.
Addressing persistent inquiries, Ntshavheni pointed out that while Zuma remains a prominent former head of state, his public standing does not strip him of fundamental rights to patient confidentiality and privacy regarding personal medical matters.
