South Africa’s (SA) gambling industry is facing growing pressure to protect players and tackle illegal operators.
Casino and hospitality group Sun International has launched a Responsible Gambling Charter aimed at reducing gambling-related harm.
The move comes amid concerns about problem gambling and the growth of unlicensed operators, as calls grow for stronger regulation.
Gambling is a major economic activity in SA, providing jobs and generating revenue.
However, authorities say the industry also presents regulatory challenges, particularly when it comes to illegal gambling operations.
Gauteng Province Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, says the scale of the industry requires strong oversight.
