Civil Aviation Amendment Act 22 of 2021 has officially come into effect
South Africa’s (SA) Civil Aviation Amendment Act 22 of 2021 has officially come into effect, following a lengthy legislative process that began in November 2018.
President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Act into law on April 6, 2022, and signed the proclamation bringing it into effect on September 16, 2026.
The amendments took effect on October 12, 2026, the date of their publication in the Government Gazette.
The amendments seek to operationalise previously dormant aviation safety provisions, including changes to Chapter four of the Civil Aviation Act, which provides for the establishment of the Aviation Safety Investigation Board.
