South Africa’s (SA) Free State province has recorded its first laboratory-confirmed case of Mpox in Sasolburg, bringing the country’s cumulative total to 23 cases.
According to health officials, the patient is in a stable condition, isolating at home, and receiving clinical care, while trace teams monitor and test a small group of close contacts. The Western Cape remains the epicenter of the outbreak with 18 confirmed cases, followed by Gauteng with three cases, and KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State recording one case each.
Free State Department of Health Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi reassured the public that the risk of widespread community transmission remains low, but urged residents to remain vigilant and report any flu-like symptoms or unexpected skin rashes to local healthcare facilities.
