The Randburg Magistrate’s Court in South Africa (SA) has denied former Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya, bail.
Sibiya was arrested last month at a Strip Club in Sandton and faces charges, including the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl, rape, human trafficking and the contravention of the Firearms Control Act.
Last week, the state argued that it would be an injustice to grant Sibiya bail, considering the charges he faces.
During the bail application, the court heard graphic details on day two of Sibiya’s bail application, as the investigating officer read out the WhatsApp conversations between Sibiya and the 16-year-old girl, whom he allegedly sexually groomed.
According to investigating officer Detective Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu, the WhatsApp messages from Sibiya to the young girl were of an extremely explicit nature.
She further testified that Sibiya made several calls to the victim asking her to send him x-rated pictures and videos of herself.
The court also heard evidence from Sibiya’s son, Ofentse Magwenya, via an affidavit read out by his attorney Estelle Kilian, stating that bishop Azwihangwi Maumela acted of his own accord when he contacted one of the complainants in the case.
