SA, Uganda are seeking to strengthen co-operation in trade
South Africa (SA) and Uganda are seeking to strengthen co-operation in trade, investment, mining and health.
This follows the third session of the two countries’ Joint Commission for Co-operation, held in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The meeting, co-chaired by SA’s International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola and Uganda’s Adonia Ayebare, highlighted investment opportunities for SA businesses in Uganda’s growing economy.

The meeting served as a platform for the two countries to consolidate bilateral co-operation across a broad range of sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, science and technology, education, health, tourism, transport, infrastructure development and social development.

While highlighting the outcomes of the session to the media, Lamola said the discussions have laid an important foundation for strengthening economic ties and advancing co-operation between the two countries.

The ministers also discussed the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and its neighbouring countries including Uganda.

While praising a number of countries contributing to end the pandemic, Lamola called on African states to strengthen solidarity and support the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention with funding, expertise and medical personnel.
