Malawi’s main opposition party, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has called on the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to disclose the exact whereabouts of President Arthur Peter Mutharika to the nation.
The demand comes amid growing public speculation and anxiety over the head of state’s prolonged absence from public engagements. MCP officials are urging top DPP leadership to be fully transparent with Malawian citizens regarding the president’s current location, health, and official status.
Under the Constitution of Malawi, the government is obliged to keep the public informed on matters of state leadership. Opposition figures argue that prolonged secrecy surrounding the Presidency only fuels unnecessary panic, damages public trust, and risks destabilizing national governance.
