The authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have deported a group of Chinese and Filipino nationals found to be living and working illegally in the mineral-rich southern provinces of Lualaba and Haut-Katanga.
The deportations follow targeted inspections by provincial migration and security enforcement agencies, aimed at stamping out undocumented residency and enforcing labor compliance within the region’s mining and commercial sectors. Authorities pointed out that while foreign investment remains welcome, compliance with immigration and employment legislation remains mandatory for all international residents.
Providing context on the regulatory crackdown and its broader impact, independent journalist Kilongo Espoir Itel Tumba reported from Lualaba in an interview with news anchor Abedi Jean de la Croix.
According to Espoir, the swift expulsion of undocumented workers underscores a growing push by provincial leadership to bring transparency to local labor markets, protect national employment opportunities, and ensure foreign enterprises strictly adhere to Congolese immigration law.
