South Africa’s (SA) International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says Africa’s struggle for true self-determination is far from over, warning that debt and enduring global inequalities continue to weigh heavily on the continent and the wider Global South.
Speaking at the second Africa and African Diaspora Conference in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, under the theme “The Return to Africa”, Lamola urged Africans to jealously guard the principles of Pan Africanism and self-determination.
The gathering brings together leaders from Africa and the diaspora to confront the continuing legacy of colonialism and slavery, and advance economic liberation, reparatory justice and greater African agency.
Former Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf are among the prominent participants.
