Mozambican President Daniel Chapo is conducting a three-day working visit to Russia from October 27 to 29, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to participate in the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit.
On the sidelines of the summit, the two heads of state are expected to hold bilateral talks focused on strengthening political, economic, and strategic cooperation between their nations. The visit takes place as Moscow reiterates its willingness to support Mozambique in countering terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, particularly through military equipment supply and personnel training.
Providing analysis on the strategic objectives and broader implications of the diplomatic mission, legal scholar and President of the Mentes Resilientes Association, Gerson da Silva, outlined the key stakes involved for Maputo.
According to da Silva, the engagement reflects Mozambique’s efforts to balance its international partnerships while securing specialised security and economic assistance to address critical national stability priorities.
